(Scroll down)
(Overview)

A tool and equipment tracking platform developed for companies that rent machinery, commercial tools, and heavy gear to active construction job sites.

Empowers equipment managers and field crews to scan items with QR codes or NFC tags, track site deployments on an interactive map, and accurately monitor rental durations.

Project Overview

Rental companies providing construction machinery and equipment need continuous operational clarity on where every asset is deployed, which job site is using it, and how long it has been stationed there. This system provides a web-based command center paired with mobile scanning capabilities.

Industry Challenge

Equipment distributed across numerous commercial construction sites often suffers from misplaced gear, delayed returns, and disputed rental periods due to paper-based delivery logs.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS & SPECIFICATIONS
  • Field personnel needed fast, reliable identification methods without manual serial number typing.
  • Fleet dispatchers needed clear map views showing active job sites and assigned machinery.
  • Billing teams needed accurate timestamps of when equipment arrived at and left each job site.

Key Capabilities

The solution integrates practical physical identification with modern web-based fleet logistics.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS & SPECIFICATIONS
  • Equipment & site tracking: Comprehensive registry of equipment profiles, maintenance statuses, and assigned customer job sites.
  • Map integration: Interactive visual map depicting active job sites and clustered equipment allocations.
  • QR code scanning: Rapid item identification using standard smartphone camera feeds.
  • NFC-based identification: One-tap NFC tag reading on supported mobile devices for instant asset lookup.
  • Rental duration logs: Calculated deployment durations tracking active days on site for billing verification.

My Role & Technical Contribution

As full-stack engineer, I architected backend modules in NestJS using TypeScript, created the responsive Next.js frontend interfaces, and implemented mobile-first QR and Web NFC scanning interactions.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS & SPECIFICATIONS
  • Implemented modular NestJS controllers, services, and PostgreSQL data models.
  • Integrated browser-based QR scanning libraries and Web NFC API handlers with robust fallbacks.
  • Built interactive site maps visualizing equipment density and deployment statuses.

Engineering Decisions

Because construction sites frequently experience spotty cellular connectivity, field scan events are time-stamped client-side and submitted using idempotent requests, preventing duplicate check-in or return records if a connection re-establishes mid-sync.
